Somewhere along the way, a lot of good people picked up the idea that walking with God is supposed to feel like carrying an iron weight through a storm. We drag ourselves through our days, secretly tired, waiting for someone to check our attendance or grade our effort. We look at our own hearts, look at our failures, and quietly assume that God must be thoroughly disappointed with what He has on His hands.
If that is where you find yourself today, I want to give you permission to take a deep breath. That heavy, miserable version of religion did not come from the lips of Jesus. When God stepped into our dusty world, He did not come with a list of demands to crush you; He came with a love that sets you free.
Look at how Jesus moved through the streets of Galilee. He did not dodge the bruised, the tired, or the broken. When He sat by the well in the heat of noon or walked into the homes of the outcast, He was revealing the heart of the Father. John tells us that God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. That famous sentence is not a cold theological formula. It is the announcement of a God who looks at a world in ruin and feels an overwhelming, outward-moving love.
God did not send Jesus because He was grudgingly fulfilling a contract. He sent Him because He genuinely loves you. When faith gets twisted into a grim exercise of self-punishment, we have forgotten the engine that drives the whole thing. True gospel faith is not about proving how miserable you can be for God; it is about receiving how deeply good God has been towards you.
When you start to realise that the Cross was born out of love, the posture of your heart changes. You stop trying to pay off a debt you could never settle, and you start resting in a gift that has already been given. Faith ceases to be a burden you carry and becomes the very foundation that carries you.
Once you see the love of God, the next thing
