We live in a culture that tells us to build our own platform, secure our own brand, and make sure everybody knows our name. It is exhausting, isn’t it? Every single day, there is this quiet pressure to keep up, to push harder, and to prove that we matter in a crowded world.
Yet when we look at the way of Jesus, we find an entirely different invitation. He calls us into a rhythm of surrender where our exhaustion meets His endless strength, and where stepping back actually lets us step into the life we were always meant to live.
Think about Jesus walking along the dusty roads of Galilee, touching eyes that had never seen the light and sitting with people everyone else crossed the road to avoid. His life was never about gathering applause for Himself. Even when the crowds pressed in, He often slipped away to quiet places just to be with the Father.
When we talk about letting Jesus increase, we are not talking about some abstract religious idea or a clever technique for personal self-improvement. We are talking about making actual room in the noise of our daily routines for the living, breathing presence of the Holy Spirit to move.
Surrender is simply the moment we stop white-knuckling the steering wheel of our own lives. We admit that our own strength has run out, and we open our hands to receive the grace that God has been holding out to us all along.
Decreasing sounds like a loss until you realise what you are actually trading away. You are trading anxiety for peace, striving for rest, and the heavy weight of trying to be enough for the unshakable reality of His love.
The early believers in the book of Acts did not rely on their own cleverness or social standing. They moved in the power of the Spirit because they had learned the art of getting out of the way. They decreased so that the bold, transforming reality of the gospel could take centre stage in their communities.
This is where real freedom begins to take root in our spirits. When our identity is anchored securely in who Jesus is for us, we do not need to constantly defend ourselves, manage our image, or prove our worth to the watching world.
Imagine what happens when we bring this kind of surrendered trust right into the middle of our families, our workplaces, and our neighborhoods. Instead of demanding our own way, we start looking for where the Spirit is already moving and simply join Him there.
This is the beautiful mystery of God at work. He takes our ordinary, fragile, cracked lives and fills them with His extraordinary presence, turning our quiet moments of surrender into signposts of His kingdom.
So we take a deep breath today. We let go of the need to be the hero of our own story, and we invite the King of Kings to take His rightful place at the very centre of everything we do.
Where is the exhaustion of trying to manage everything yourself keeping you from experiencing the quiet, unshakeable peace of Jesus right now?
