Hey everybody! It is so good to connect with you today. You know, life moves pretty fast, doesn’t it? If we aren’t careful, we wake up and realize we’ve spent the entire week running on a treadmill of tasks, trying to prove ourselves, check off boxes, and earn our worth. We get caught in this endless loop of busyness, thinking that what we do is who we are. But I want to remind you today—and I have to remind myself of this all the time—that God is offering us a completely different way to live.
Stepping Off the Performance Treadmill
We live in a culture that is absolutely obsessed with achievement. From the moment we’re old enough to understand, the world starts handing us scorecards. Get good grades, land the right job, keep a spotless house, post the best pictures—and somewhere along the way, we start projecting those scorecards onto our relationship with God. We act like His love is a performance review. We think, “If I pray long enough, read enough chapters, and avoid messing up, then maybe God will smile at me today.”
That is an exhausting way to live. The Gospel tells us a radically different story. Our deepest identity isn’t found in our hustle, our productivity, or even our successes. It is found in the unshakeable truth that we are deeply, fiercely loved by Him before we ever lift a finger. Grace means God looks at you and says, “You are mine,” not because of your résumé, but because of His heart. When that really sinks into your bones, it changes everything.
Finding Peace in the Pause
So how do we break the cycle of exhaustion? It starts by simply stopping. Taking time to pray isn’t just another item to squeeze onto your to-do list; it’s an act of rebellion against a world that tells you your worth is tied to your output. When you pause to pray, you are hitting the reset button on your soul.
Prayer is where we admit the truth: we can’t keep all the plates spinning on our own. It’s the moment we step off the treadmill and remember who actually holds the universe together. True peace doesn’t come from getting everything done; it comes from knowing the One who holds us when things are undone.
True worth isn’t about how much I do, but about who holds me.
When Silence Is All We Have
And let’s be honest—sometimes, when we finally get quiet, we don’t even know what to say. Life gets heavy, grief hits hard, or we’re just plain tired, and our vocabulary shrinks to nothing. You might sit down to pray and find yourself completely speechless.
Take heart in this: God doesn’t need your eloquent speeches. When words fail us, prayer still speaks. The apostle Paul talks about how the Spirit helps us in our weakness and intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. God understands the language of a silent, weary heart. He doesn’t look at your silence and think you’ve got nothing to offer; He pulls you in closer and carries you through.
So, where are you looking for your value today? Are you leaning on your own strength, or resting in the unshakeable love of the One who holds you right now?
